June 27, 2pm

In 2005, Zaq Landsberg purchased two acres of land from eBay and declared independence from the United States, creating the Republic of Zaqistan. Landsberg will speak to US-Zaqistan relations in a Post 9/11 context, Nation Building, National Security, Sovereignty and Zaqistani history and culture. June 13, and more information on the events made proper

THIS SATURDAY!
JUNE 13!
2-4!
THE HAND DRAWN MAP ASSOCIATION!
DRAWING A GIANT MAP OF BALTIMORE!

Actual, non-caps lock description:

The Hand Drawn Map Association
(HDMA) collects maps that depict an
array of spaces, from people all around
the world. The HDMA encourages people
to think about and share how they
visualize the world they live in. Join us for
a workshop on the importance of hand
drawn cartography and help us draw a
large-format map of Baltimore!

June 20: Make Sport! 1-4
Participants play and analyze several
popular sports, assessing their strengths
and weaknesses. What void does each
of these games fill? How could they
serve a different purpose, engage a
different audience, and incorporate a
different skill set? Working in various
methods with members of the Circle
Rules Federation
, participants will adjust
popular sports and build new sports that
challenge their artistic sensibilities.
Please dress for athletic excellence.

June 27: Fictional States

In 2005, Zaq Landsberg purchased two acres of land from eBay and declared independence from the United States, creating the Republic of Zaqistan. Landsberg will speak to US-Zaqistan relations in a Post 9/11 context, Nation Building, National Security, Sovereignty and Zaqistani history and culture.

Landsberg will not take any questions about the Zaqistan Uranium Enrichment Program. No such program exists and anything said to the contrary is false.

Using some of the textile remnants that were gathered for the loom, we made a makeshift shelter in the gallery, where we ate some PB&J by flashlight and computer-generated campfire, courtesy of youtube.

More Information You Can Use!

Here's the full version of the statement we've written about the project:

In the tradition of free schools and with a shared curiosity about learning, join us this summer on Saturday afternoons for free workshops, readings, and film screenings as we explore some of the ideas surrounding the exhibition “The Reverse Ark”. Workshops will investigate a range of topics such as interdependence, post-industrial production, storytelling, and community, as they pertain to practices as diverse as art, science, and public policy. The Reverse Ark Schoolhouse seeks to use the framework created by the Futurefarmers to generate dialogue in an art environment that is socially, politically, and environmentally relevant.

And, btw:

WE ARE HAVING AN OPEN CALL FOR PROJECTS.
The Reverse Ark School is currently accepting proposals for workshops or events to be held in the gallery space this summer. Anything that may fit the parameters described by the project statement is open for consideration. Workshops can run from between 2 and 4 on Saturdays, but if we find there are more awesome projects than Saturdays that may be subject to change. The materials in the gallery from The Reverse Ark are available for use on projects. For more information, e-mail reverse.arkschool@gmail.com.

WELCOME!

This is the blog for the Reverse Ark Schoolhouse, a summertime educational series produced in conjunction with the Futurefarmers show The Reverse Ark: In The Wake, up at the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore. Look here for photos from the events, news about upcoming projects, and anything that Ingrid sees on her google reader. (Just kidding about the last one.)
